Mary Temperton talks about supporting young people in Bracknell

We all recognise that the past two years have been difficult. This is especially so for our young people.  Their access to education has been challenging, their need to socialise face to face was put on hold. Youth activities were closed.

Many are still suffering from depression and mental illness as a result.  Providing local places where they can talk with adults in relaxed circumstances is said to help. The only actual Youth Club run by the Council at the moment is The Wayz in Calfridus Way.

Bracknell Labour welcomes the new Youth Hub in Bracknell Town Centre, but it is yet to fully open. Thankfully, other Sports Clubs, Scouts and Guides, Art and Theatre Groups have all started again.

Some churches across Bracknell Forest are also supporting young people. Our young people are part of our communities. There should be places throughout Bracknell Forest where they can go and feel welcomed and safe.

We have Community Centres. We urgently need more Youth Workers with mental health training to be there to support.

This need is nationwide and should be funded by the government.
